What got you to your first six figures WILL NOT get you from 6 to 7 figures!

For too long I held beliefs that locked me at six-figures. I wanted seven-figures. I dreamed about it. I had a vision for it. But I didn’t truly believe it.

Until you level-up your mindset, you cannot scale from 6 to 7 figures. But even when you become aware of your limiting beliefs, habits and the rest… you need to get your strategy on-point!

Because a six-figure strategy is built around “hustling” and “figuring it out” and validating your offer…

This is NOT how you build a seven-figure business!

A seven-figure strategy is all about figuring out how to leverage you and your team, and making sure your business model is set up to actually get above $1 million.

But hardly anyone at six-figures does this!

But it’s your “strategy” that distinguishes a seven-figure business from a six-figure one.

  • What’s your business vision and purpose, and what does this look like today?
  • What’s your direction for the next three months… two years… and five years from now?
  • How can you set goals this quarter that will drive you toward the bigger picture?
  • BUT at the same time allow you to scale, profit and grow TODAY?
  • What’s the 20% of activity that produces 80% of your bottom line?
  • …. AND what can you do to maximise this today, tomorrow and next year?

If you want to scale from 6 to 7 figures, you need to create a strategy and business model that removes YOU as the main bottleneck, leverages you and your team, and lets you work “on” the business.

Whereas the hustling six-figure entrepreneur gets caught working “in” their business; a glorified employee who doesn’t a own a business at all… they’ve just created an 80-hour per week job for themselves.

3: EXECUTION

In the world of business, nothing happens without action.

The way you execute your time and HOW you approach your work is everything.

The way a six-figure entrepreneur executes differs greatly to the way a seven-figure one does.

Of course, I had to learn this for myself the hard way…

It was just another, normal night…

I was 25 years old, and with my buddies in Athens, Georgia for a football game.

I was a seemingly ‘healthy’ guy (running half-marathons, a marathon, tough mudder races…), at least, this is what the doctor was telling me…

It was the end of the night, so we all went to bed. But there was a problem…

I couldn’t breathe without consciously thinking about it. And I couldn’t fall asleep…
Every time I did nod off, I would shoot up and have to gasp for air.

I felt like my heart was going to wrench up and stop…

This feeling of stress and overwhelm had been building up for a few weeks, but I just thought it was normal and fine; part of building a successful business.

Well I went through this process for an hour, so I finally put my pride aside and had my buddy call 911.

30 minutes later I sat with the paramedic, and told him my story…

  • I told him how I was building my first business…
  • … how it was growing and starting to make some good money.
  • I told him about my vision for it, and how hard I was hustling…
  • … how I worked 80+ hour weeks, because “that’s what I needed to do.”

When I usually told people these things, they looked at me impressed.

Not this medic.
He just looked at me… with pity!

This was a huge moment for me.

As I look back on my own entrepreneurial journey, this was the moment I began to learn exactly what it would take to build a “real” business.

I questioned whether the hustle and grind, and 80-hour weeks were worth it.
I realized what got me to six-figure WOULD NOT get me to seven.

At six-figures…

  • You say yes to everything and everyone…
  • You chase the money (even if at a big discount) and the fame…
  • You want everything NOW, so you hustle and grind a little harder…
  • You try to be something to everyone (becoming a master to no one)…

In short, you don’t respect your time.
You execute with desperation, running around on that hamster wheel.

But you want to know the secret… ?

Seven-figure business owners understand success doesn’t follow short bursts of hustle. They appreciate true sustainable success builds over time through consistency and momentum.

It’s impossible to work “on” your business while you’re caught working “in” it as a glorified employee.

  • Remove bottlenecks …

Although systems will set you free, they don’t solve all your problems…

Because the last thing you want is to be the person managing these systems (or doing the work).

So one of the most important steps to scale from 6 to 7 figures is to build a team of world class talent.

Seven-figure business owners understand how important “people” are.

In fact, when Geoff Smart and Randy Street interviewed 20+ billionaires and 300+ CEOs about what it takes to build a successful business, 52% said TALENT was the single biggest factor.

Not tools. Not products. Not marketing or sales. Not even strategy or systems. PEOPLE!

But it isn’t “just” about any people…
Not “just” anyone can be part of your seven-figure team…

We live in an amazing point in history where we can reach anyone, anywhere and at anytime. This is great, except it makes competition tough (REALLY tough!)

Positioning yourself as the “go to” authority in your industry fixes this, because it means people come to you, refer you, and stay loyal to you. You stop chasing and hustling, and instead build the sort of authority that leads to bigger and better opportunities (meaning you get more, even though you’re working less).

So… how do you do this? What do you need to consider when positioning yourself as an expert…?

  1. Messaging: You need a clear message that communicates who you help, how you help them and why they should care.
  2. Tagline: What is your ONE thing? How can you refine your message into a simple tagline that makes it really clear about who you are, what you do and HOW you will help your audience?
  3. Credibility: If you want to become the “go to” expert in your niche, you need to develop authority and expertise. This aligns with the next point.
  4. Social Proof: The best way to sell is by having someone else sell for you. You do that through social proof: reviews, testimonials, media features, influencer endorsements, etc…
  5. Your Story: This piece is so important, because YOUR STORY is what sets you apart from all your competitors. Be unique and share your story!
  6. Platform: You have to pull all this together into a professional platform: website, social media, publications — basically, wherever your audience shows-up…

Align these six elements and you’ll position yourself as a “go to” expert 🙂
